Obwohl Holy Moses bereits seit 1980 im Geschäft sind, habe ich sie (meines Wissens) noch nie gesehen, geschweige denn, fotografiert. Und da die Thrasher um Sabina Classen Ende des Jahres das Kapitel Holy Moses schließen wollen, war Wacken für mich so ziemlich die letzte Gelegenheit, Versäumtes nachzuholen.
Und beinahe hätte es dann doch nicht geklappt. Durch die chaotischen Bedingungen, die auch noch wetterbedingt am Mittwoch anhielten, wurde der ursprünglich angesetzte Termin um 16:00 Uhr auf der Louder Stage gecancelt. Gott sei dank erhielt ich dann per inoffiziellem Gerücht die Info, dass die Band um Mitternacht auf der W:E:T Stage spielen würde.
Mir wäre der Nachmittagstermin natürlich aus fotografischer Sicht lieber gewesen; Tageslicht hätte sicherlich deutlich bessere Ergebnisse gebracht. So hatten wir Fotografen mit einem extrem schlechten Licht zu kämpfen, das nur noch andertags bei Abbath schlechter war.
Im Nachhinein ärgere ich mich, dass ich über all die Jahrzehnte nie nie Möglichkeit ergriffen habe, mir ein Konzert der Band anzusehen. Viellicht begeisterte Sabina und Band aber auch nur deshalb, weil man sich heuzutage darüber klar sein muss, dass Frau Classen die erste Frau mit Growls war; und das zu einer Zeit, in der Bon Jovi und Konsorten auch zu Metal Bands zählten.
Ein energiegeladener Gig mit viel Spielfreude. Ein toller Abschluss des ersten Tages.
Although Holy Moses have been in business since 1980, I’ve never seen them (to my knowledge) let alone photographed them. And since the thrashers around Sabina Classen want to close the Holy Moses chapter at the end of the year, Wacken was pretty much the last opportunity for me to catch up on what I had missed.
And then it almost didn’t work out. Due to the chaotic conditions, which also continued on Wednesday due to the weather, the originally scheduled appointment at 4:00 p.m. on the Louder Stage was cancelled. Thank goodness I got the info via unofficial rumor that the band would be playing at midnight on the W:E:T Stage.
Of course, from a photographic point of view, I would have preferred the afternoon appointment; Daylight would certainly have brought much better results. So we photographers had to contend with extremely bad light, which was only worse the other day at Abbath.
In retrospect, I’m annoyed that I never took the opportunity to see a concert by the band over the decades. But maybe Sabina and the band were only enthusiastic because nowadays you have to realize that Mrs. Classen was the first woman with growls; and that at a time when Bon Jovi and consorts also belonged to metal bands.
An energetic gig with a lot of joy in playing. A great end to the first day.
