Dass der Bandname SDI nichts mit der Stationierung von (Laser)waffen im Weltraum zu tun hat, wissen vielleicht die Wenigsten, die schon mal was von den deutschen Speed-Thrashern gehört haben. In diesem Fall ist es die Abkürzung für „Satans Defloration Incorporated„. Mitte der Achtziger war die Band aus Osnabrück beim Gama Unterlabel Scratchcore untergekommen und veröffentlichte da die ersten Alben. Mit dem zweiten Album „Sign Of The Wicked“ hätte man sich eigentlich etwas auf der Erfolgsleiter nach oben kämpfen können; aber die schlechte Arbeit des Labels blockierte alle Bemühungen. Ich habe damals für mein Fanzine „LiveWire“ ein Interview mit Band Kopf Reinhard Kruse geführt, in dem er sich bereits ob des schlechten Supports beschwerte.
Dass ich die Band jemals live sehen würde, war nicht zu erwarten. Aber Wacken sei Dank, enterte das Trio die Wasteland Stage und wusste in der Tat zu überzeugen.
Few people who have ever heard of the German speed thrashers may know that the band name SDI has nothing to do with the stationing of (laser) weapons in space. In this case, it is the abbreviation for „Satans Defloration Incorporated“. In the mid-eighties, the band from Osnabrück was signed to the Gama sub-label Scratchcore and released their first albums there. With the second album „Sign Of The Wicked“, they could actually have fought their way up the ladder of success, but the poor work of the label blocked all efforts. I did an interview with band leader Reinhard Kruse for my fanzine „LiveWire“ back then, in which he complained about the poor support.
It was not to be expected that I would ever see the band live. But thanks to Wacken, the trio entered the Wasteland Stage and were indeed convincing.
